Maybe This Is The Problem

Seasonal affective disorder
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), also known as winter depression, is a mood disorder whose sufferers experience normal mental health throughout most of the year, but experience depressive symptoms in the winter or, less frequently, in the summer, repeatedly, year after year. As stated by the U.S. National Library of Medicine:

"Some people experience a serious mood change when the seasons change. They may sleep too much, have little energy, and crave sweets and starchy foods. They may also feel depressed. Though symptoms can be severe, they usually clear up."[1]

The condition in the summer is often referred to as Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder, and can also include heightened anxiety[2].

Ugh. I get that and it sucks. I have to make myself get outdoors a few times a week for some (pathetically weak) sunlight and also really watch my nutrition. I hate, hate HATE winter!

I've never understood the reverse thingy though. Who could possibly get depressed about warm weather and long daylight hours?

Yeah, I'm hearin' ya. It's getting harder to get out of bed at 4.45 am these days since it's so dark and warm in there but I figure I just have to do it and once I'm up and ready I'm ok. But if the exercise doesn't happen sometime in the am it just doesn't happen for that day.

I'm also craving something sweet every day after lunch and would so love some more hot carbs but reason with myself that I ain't gonna get HUGE and lean if I chow down on them.

Your explanation fits the bill.

Thanks Michelle.

That describes the symptoms I get with PMS.

Kek - I think the people who experience it in summer are mainly in the tropics where the heat and humidity totally drain you of all energy. Even though our summer is not that bad there are days, sometimes weeks where I could lie on the couch and not move at all.
