I'm exhausted. Yesterday's training took it out of me. I know that there are a few people at my gym that can train multiple times a day but I'm not that person. I did Crossfit, worked all day, took the dog for a walk and then did 1.5 hours of weightlifting. I find that it is hard to switch off after weightlifting, it's like my brain is wired and I can't turn it off so I find it hard to go to sleep. I should have had a rest day today and my effort in today's WOD reflected that. Why do I keep doing it to myself?
Despite all that, I had a great session at weightlifting last night. I actually got a full snatch last night!!! Happy days! Okay, it was just with the 10 kg bar but I'm not sure if I have ever gotten into a full snatch from the ground (I did when I did the one-on-one session with the weightlifting coaches but that was from the hang). To most people this would seem like a small insignificant thing but, to me, it's a big fricken deal!
We then went onto power clean and jerk and I was really happy with how I went. I got some pretty good feedback and worked on improving my shrug. I also need to work on opening my hips more.
The last thing we worked on was our front squat. I had Shane spot me when I went for my 1RM of 55 kg but unfortunately failed the attempt. I still feel really good about it as it is good for me to try and push myself out of my comfort zone.
I may be tired today but I'm also really happy. Early night for this chook tonight though :)

I've Succumbed
Over the last week I've been fighting off a bug and it has finally taken a hold. I think the late nights and long days of the last weekend lowered my immunity and despite taking a truckload of vitamins and other supplements I've succumbed to the lurgy. Normally I would soldier on but as I've gotten older I am getting a little bit wiser and took a day off work yesterday and haven't been to CrossFit the last couple of days. I was supposed to have a PT session today but am postponing that until I'm 100% again. I think my workmates and gym buddies would appreciate me taking the time off too ... no need to spread the germs any further. The good thing about being fairly healthy is that I know I'll be back to kicking butt lickety-split.

Slowly, Slowly
I trained at home last night which is a good thing as I have a lighter, regular bar at home rather than the olympic bars they have at CF. It gave me a chance to do yesterday's WOD which was 10 rounds of 1 power snatch, 3 snatch squats, 5 OH squats. If I went to CF it would have been for form rather than trying to get PBs. I only used my 5 kg bar at home and still managed to get a decent workout as well as improve my overhead squat form. The best thing is the shoulder held up quite well with the snatches.

Feeling Blessed
I continue to be amazed by the people that have come into my life over the years and I guess I can thank social media for bringing them to me. Without blogging, FB etc I wouldn't never have had the chance to meet such inspiring, beautiful people.
I was lucky on the weekend to make the trip to Sydney for the 12wbt Round 3 Finale. Obviously I didn't do this round but I tagged along with some girls from my FB group. It was fantastic to finally meet some of these people that I have been communicating with for the last year and a bit and what a lovely bunch of people they are too. We spent the weekend chatting with a bit of shopping thrown in as well ... it was a shame that I didn't get to speak to some people for very long but I think we are already planning on meeting up again for the Brissy one in February.
Training is still on hold for me as my shoulder continues to recover from the removal of the BCC. I am longing to get back into it and it's lucky that it is concert week for the girls and therefore don't have time for the gym. Even though I'm out of action for a little while I'm grateful it was a basal cell carcinoma and the least dangerous of all skin cancers and I know it won't be long before I'm back throwing around the weights again.

The Only Way Is Up
I have to say that last week was a pretty shitty week all round. I spent the first half of the week with a head cold, Thursday I got a skin cancer cut out which I didn't think looked too big but they I ended up with a 10 cm excision and Missy T broke her arm on Thursday as well. Add to that, she has a rash on her stomach and back. At least Mal and Moo are healthy!
Poor Missy T! She was playing Bullrush at school on Thursday when she was knocked over by one of the bigger boys in her class. It was just before school finished for the day so her friends ran over to get Mal. When they got home he gave her some panadol and put an icepack on it and thought it was just a sprain as she still had movement. She proceeded to get ready for dancing and went to her lesson (she just didn't do her arms). Another dose of pain killers before she went to bed and she slept all night. When she got up the next day it was still hurting so I rang the doctors with the earliest appointment at 1200. She didn't want to miss school so off she went. The x-rays confirmed that her arm was indeed broken, greenstick fractures in both bones of her forearm. Needless to say, both Mal and I felt so bad but, in our defense, she barely complained.
Anyway, here's hoping next week is better!

The BCC Saga Continues
I think it has been nearly 1 year since I had my skin examination and found a BCC on my shoulder. I decided to get it lasered out due to minimal scarring. Unfortunately the little sucker didn’t go way as it wasn’t as superficial as the pathology suggested. The next step was the Aldara cream. For 6 weeks I had this crusty looking scab on my shoulder and toward the end it looked absolutely feral. I went to the skin specialist after the 6 weeks with some scarring which is unusual for this treatment so she prescribed some cortisone cream. A few months later there is no change in the pigmentation of my skin and I have a pink scar on my shoulder which doesn’t concern me too much – it’s not like it’s my face. It is because my immune system is so good (it’s a bugga being healthy!) that my body responded too well to the treatment. The lesson learnt is that in future when I have a BCC I will not be using an immune response modifier to get rid of it.
