A Pair Of Unicorns and New Shoes

Matching Singlets
It was only Missy T and I on Saturday as Moo had gotten home from her school camp at 4 am on Saturday morning.  The workout was a bit of a doozy:

In Partners
-
30 min AMRAP
-
10 Deadlifts (125kg / 92.5kg)
20 Chest to Bar Pull ups
30 Power Cleans (82.5kg / 62.5kg)
40 Pull ups
50 Snatches (62.5kg / 42.5kg)
60 Toes to bar
(Courtesy of CrossFit Mayhem)

Missy T and I discussed tactics and she decided she wanted to try a band option for her pull ups as she normally does jumping pull ups on the rings.  She also decided to try knee to chest as her toes to bar option.  The last time she did a workout with toes to bar she did sit ups as she couldn't reach the bar.  We increased her weights to 2 kg dumbbells.

She has made such amazing progress in the last few weeks and did so well with her pull ups.  She was struggling with the chest to bar portion so I may have helped her a little to get that extra height.  The funniest part was when I was struggling to get 5 reps out and she told me she could do 10 reps easily.  I said to her that it was fine if she felt like she could do 10 and she replied, "challenge accepted!"  She managed to get the 10 out but I had to no-rep her a couple of times (I'm mean like that!)

She was so encouraging when I was starting to struggle and talked me through when I started to break my reps down even further.  She left the workout saying how much she enjoyed it ... but I think that was because there was no running.
Olys!!
A friend posted on FB that there was a sale at one of the sports stores on the weekend so I saw it as an opportunity to grab myself some Olympic lifting shoes.  I have been tossing up whether to get some as I have heard they can help with stability during lifts.

It must have been fate as I got the last ones in store and they were my size.  It was like it was meant to be.  I tried them out this morning and got a PB on my front squat!  So I won't be sending them back.  LOL!

New Toys

Michelle Bridges has a new clothing and fitness line which is being sold at Big W.  I may seem like a bit of a tragic but I ducked in to have a quick squizzy at her new range to see what it was like.  The clothing is actually quite nice with great colours and fit quite well although Hubby said that he could see the tag through the leggings so I think I will have to be wary what underwear I wear underneath it.  It will be interesting to see how it washes but they were comfortable to train in and the shirt length was longer and therefore didn't ride up showing my tummy.

While I was there I also purchased one of her barbells.  It is fairly light-weight with 2 x 3 kg weights and 2 x 2 kg (10 kg all up) and will be perfect for the times I'm doing a DVD or drop sets when I need a mix of heavy and lighter weights.  It also came with a workout DVD which I used yesterday.  I somehow managed to con Mal into doing the DVD with me (I have decided that he needs to go on a health kick) and gave him the barbell while I used my old one.  The DVD was actually pretty good, 35 minutes of a circuit-style progam with weights, cardio and core.  It definitely got the heartrate up and I may have overestimated what I could lift having to pause the DVD to drop the weights.  Mal had to modify some of the exercises but he did really well.  He is such a boy though and is totally unco - I tried not to pay out on him too much.  I would definitely do the DVD again as it's a great short and sharp workout.  I enjoy circuit-style DVDs as I know once I get through a certain exercise I won't have to revisit again which makes it a bit more bearable.

Some Days Are Diamonds

And some days are stone.  My cranky pants are well and truly on this week.  I'm blaming the weather as it is rainy and cold and, frankly, a little depressing.  It sounded like rain this morning so I gave taking the dog for a walk a miss and did my Cathe Yoga Max DVD instead and will try for a walk this afternoon.  My body is screaming out for a darn good stretch at the moment as my left hip seems to have gone out in sympathy with my right one and while acupuncture and physio seems to be doing its thing, I know yoga helps out of sight.  I have a tendency to neglect my stretching but with all the hassles I have been having I know I have to take that time to get it done.  I have to admit that I got a little frustrated with this morning's practice as my flexibility is not up to norm but there was a huge improvement by the end of the session so I will take that away as the positive from the session.  I need to focus on the fact that, while I'm having some niggly issues at the moment, it is comparatively minor compared to what a lot of people go through.  Oh, and the other positive is that I got me some of these:

Now I can do heavy squats at home!  Yippee!!

It Arrived

Here is my new toy!

I got home today to this in my living area. Hubby had picked it up this arv and put it together before taking the girls to a party - isn't he the most adorable person. He even had the air con running. Anyway, I'm off to give a whirl. Hmmmm ... what should I do. Bike smacker? Pyscho Bike?

Have a great one!

New Purchases

I went out last week and bought some new things for my gym. I have put it on layby so I haven't got them yet but I'm soooo excited. I can't wait to do some chin ups on something other than the kids' swing set!

My workouts have been a bit hit-and-miss lately. I have been working shift work last week which has thrown my whole routine out the window. Hopefully I can get back into it next week.
Tomorrow, we are going to do the Million Paws Walk for the RSPCA. We bought our dog a couple of years ago from the RSPCA and I like to take him back to show them that he is happy and healthy and part of a loving family. Plus, as I was working shift I have barely seen my family so it would be nice to have a bit of quality time with them.
