Least Favourite Vid

As I have said before the 12wbt has 2 videos to watch each week.  Most are full of great tips and are very useful.  Today's message would be my least favourite as it is on tips for eating out.  I'm not bagging the video in any way and there are some handy hints that would helped lots of people but, for me, I don't get to go out for dinner very often so I really don't want to be full of angst on what I should and shouldn't be eating before I even get to the restaurant.  If I'm going to a Thai restaurant I will plan to have a curry knowing that is full of coconut milk but I will eat it guilt free as I don't eat like that every week.  I will plan to have dessert because nothing beats dessert when you are out.  I will not get on the restaurant's website and pre-plan my meal so I don't have something too fatty.  I understand that this video is most probably for people who go out often and are likely get a lot out of it but it doesn't do much for me.  Just sayin'.

For me, eating out is all about enjoying the food that's on offer without getting your knickers in a knot about it - and focusing on not overeating. WHAT you eat is way less important than HOW MUCH when it's an infrequent occurrence.

And by the way, we eat coconut milk once or twice EVERY week. A bit of coconut milk won't kill you, s long as you balance it out with protein, veg and not too much rice.

I agree. What's the point of eating out if you're stressing about every mouthful and worrying about fat grams, calories blah blah blah. I agree wth Kerryn, as long as you dont stuff yourself silly, the body will adjust to the different intake.

My sentiments exactly :)

That's what frustrates me. For me, going out for dinner is an enjoyable experience and by placing all these rules on what you can and can't eat sucks the fun out of it.

Kek, that's the other thing that frustrates me on this program ... nuts, coconut milk etc are big no-nos as they are full of fat. What about the health benefits?

Michelle, for someone (like me) who goes out to a "fancy" restaurant once every couple of months, it's all about enjoying the experience...

As far as the 12WBT food restrictions, I think it's trying to cater for all shapes, sizes and stages of obese, overweight and "just want to get fitter" with the one eating program.
Of course we need some healthy fats in our diet...moderation moderation moderation

You are right Sandra, and that's the hard thing about the program is that the meal plan is catering for such a diverse range of people. I get concerned though when I read in the forums about people getting worked up about going out for dinner or beating themselves up for making what they perceive as bad food choices ... it can feel so restrictive. There are some great hints in it though that I'm sure a lot of people will get heaps from - just not me :o)
