Something that I notice in the fitness world is all the gadgets and services you can spend your money on. Between heart rate monitors, digital scales and body scans to tell you precisely just how much muscle and fat you have it can cost you a small fortune and that's without protein powders and other supplements to help you with muscle growth/fatigue/recovery. I'm sure all these tools are great but I'm really starting to think that we can get by without it. I have been reflecting back on my first comp. I didn't own a heartrate monitor at that time but I knew that I was training to the best of my ability by the way I felt. I had no idea what my body fat was but if I lifted my shirt I could see my abs and know that I was where I should be. I think we tend to over-complicate things which I can understand ... I love numbers and science as much as anyone but I wonder if it is all necessary.
