Wednesday Rambling

Something that I notice in the fitness world is all the gadgets and services you can spend your money on. Between heart rate monitors, digital scales and body scans to tell you precisely just how much muscle and fat you have it can cost you a small fortune and that's without protein powders and other supplements to help you with muscle growth/fatigue/recovery. I'm sure all these tools are great but I'm really starting to think that we can get by without it. I have been reflecting back on my first comp. I didn't own a heartrate monitor at that time but I knew that I was training to the best of my ability by the way I felt. I had no idea what my body fat was but if I lifted my shirt I could see my abs and know that I was where I should be. I think we tend to over-complicate things which I can understand ... I love numbers and science as much as anyone but I wonder if it is all necessary.

Hi Michelle! I totally agree! I used to carry around so much stuff (i.e. water bottle and weightlifting gloves)at the gym. Just stuff, not even tech gizmos.

But I am now down to simply bringing along my fitness journal with my iPod on my arm. I can get water at the water fountain. I have callouses on my hands, so I don't need the weightlifting gloves. This simplification is so much easier!

I totally agree Mich. And especially for supps and the like. When I competed my instruction to my trainert was minimal supps as I just didnt have the budget to be buying everything under the sun for every condition and situation imaginable. Although I must confess, I'm a bit of a numbers addict and paid to have my body measured fortnightly in the last 12weeks.

Agreed, I just had to look at you and say you were done. I don't use % fat scales or calipers and I'm going to break the HR monitor out again as I want to see the effect my ageing has on my HR max lol

Nice post, Michelle. We should be listening to our bodies more and be able to tell when we've pushed it to the max, as for the fat callipers - your abs...love it! Good luck with your next round of 12WBT. xo
